Fig Distributors A Saviour For Your Sweet Tooth

Figs are small sized fruits that can be  eaten in both ways- fresh or dried. Figs become very delicate when they are ripe. Raw figs have a high content of dietary fibre. Fresh figs have a very brief life and they must be picked up ripe from trees because, once picked, they do not ripe any further. The perfect season for harvesting figs is from mid-June to mid-October and once harvested, they get spoiled within seven to ten days. So buy figs from Fig Distributors only if you plan to use them within few days of purchase Select figs which are clean and dry, and the skin should be smooth and unbroken. The fruit should be soft, but remember that it must not be mushy. When figs get beyond their period of remaining fresh, they begin to collapse inward and also the round shape of the fruit gets destroyed.

How To Store Fresh Figs

The fresh figs must be stored in cold places as this will slow it’s deterioration process. Either use them as soon as you buy or if you want to enjoy it’s taste for more two to three days, store them in a plastic bag and keep the bag in the coldest part of your refrigerator. You might now think that, since the shelf life of this fruit is so less than how people enjoy them for a longer period! The good thing is, after buying from Fig Distributors, this fruit can be stored in frozen form in a sealed container in sliced, peeled or in whole form for near about ten to twelve months. You just need to defrost them prior to their consumption.

Canned or Dried Figs

Do you think that the canned and dried figs have a really good demand? That’s because the fresh figs are so delicate and easily perishable, so the alternative dried form is so popular. One can easily find them on the markets and they are relatively inexpensive. Canned figs until sealed can remain good for a year, but once opened , the figs which are left over must be used within a week if you store them properly in a covered container in the refrigerator. When figs are in dried form, they can be stored in their original sealed package for about a month and the general room temperature must be maintained for this to remain good. If you want to store them for a longer time, keep them in the refrigerator and keep them away from the attack of certain micro-organisms for around for six months to a year. Opened dried figs should be transferred to a plastic bag which is tightly sealed and the bag must be stored in the refrigerator.

Are Figs Safe For One And All?

If someone is allergic to birch pollen, you may experience a cross reactivity to fruits like figs. Some people are also allergic to latex, so they must not consume it as fig trees contain natural latex. If your physician advised you not to consume the oxalate diet, then you must also avoid consuming figs as they contain high levels of oxalates.

If figs are new to you and you are consuming them for the first time, it is advisable to enjoy them in moderation and not to consume a lot in one go  because they have large amounts of laxative in them.

Many vegans are not comfortable with consuming figs because some varieties of figs are pollinated by wasps and these wasps die during the pollination process. But the Fig Distributors do care for their vegan customers too, so they keep in stock the commercial figs which are grown without wasp pollination!
